Sigillum hermeticum.

A wonderful Hermetic emblem

the caption on the left arm states: “Sine me nihil potestis facere.” It translates to “Apart from me you can do nothing,” and comes from the Biblical verse John 15:5 — “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

Below this lettering, continued text comes from the Epistle of St Paul to the Philippians 4:13. It reads, “Omnia possum in eo qui me confortat — “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”

Finally we see a text from Saint Paul’s Letter to the Romans reading, “Non est volentis, neque currentis sed miserentis Dei” — “So then it does not depend on the man who wills or the man who runs, but on God who has mercy.”

In the top left of the image itself, the four-lettered name of God — the Tetragrammaton — is visible (יהוה).

Other forms of biblical imagery appear as well, like a bleeding heart surrounded by the crown of thorns

The image comes from an 18th century work entitled “Les Vaisseaux d’Hermes” (The Vessels of Hermes).
