The image comes from an 18th century work entitled “Les Vaisseaux d’Hermes” (The Vessels of Hermes).
In the top left of the image itself, the four-lettered name of God — the Tetragrammaton — is visible (יהוה).
Other forms of biblical imagery appear as well, like a bleeding heart surrounded by the crown of thorns.

The caption on the left arm states: “Sine me nihil potestis facere.” It translates to “Apart from me you can do nothing,” and comes from the Biblical verse John 15:5 — “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”
Below this lettering, continued text comes from the Epistle of St Paul to the Philippians 4:13. It reads, “Omnia possum in eo qui me confortat — “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”
Finally we see a text from Saint Paul’s Letter to the Romans reading, “Non est volentis, neque currentis sed miserentis Dei” — “So then it does not depend on the man who wills or the man who runs, but on God who has mercy.”
